Thousands Join Pro-Palestinian Rallies as Coordinators Vow to Continue Demonstrating

A multitude have rallied throughout the country at pro-Palestine demonstrations, with organisers pledging to continue protesting after a peace arrangement negotiated by the American leader in Gaza initially appeared to be holding.

Sydney Protest Draws Large Crowd

In Sydney, the Palestine Action Group claimed a crowd of 30,000 had marched from Hyde Park to Belmore Park in the central business district after a scheduled protest to the famous building was restricted by the New South Wales court of appeal recently.

Local authorities assessed 8,000 people attended the city demonstration, with a spokesperson reporting there had been "no significant incidents".

Australian Rallies Mark Anniversary

Protests were also held in Victoria's capital, eastern city and Western Australian city on Sunday to mark the ongoing situation after armed incidents on October 7th, 2023 caused significant casualties in the region.

"Regarding our cause, we'll absolutely continue to advocate for liberation... for autonomy in the territory, for humanitarian assistance to enter and for Palestinians to be able to rebuild Gaza," said an activist.

Varied Responses to Ceasefire Agreement

Various participants expressed hope that the truce might bring permanent peace. Others were sceptical of Trump's involvement and encouraged participants to maintain pressure on the Australian government to impose restrictions and end the trade in military goods.

Shamikh Badra, a local with Palestinian heritage residing in the city, said he hoped the deal might enable him to bring his elderly mother, who is still in Gaza without access to medical care, to Australia, and to discover and lay to rest his family members, who have been unaccounted for since that year.

Jewish Community Holds Commemoration

In another development, numerous people joined a Jewish memorial service on the evening in Sydney's eastern suburbs to commemorate the two-year mark of the October attacks. A participant, the relative of a victim, an Australian citizen who was killed during the attacks, was scheduled to speak.

There were hopes for soon return of those still detained in Gaza and those who lost their lives. The Israeli ambassador, the official, paid tribute to the determination of those affected. The crowd booed when he mentioned the national leader and the international relations official.

Boat Activists Share Experiences

Sydney's pro-Palestine rally earlier heard from speakers including four Australians released from Israeli detention after the interception of the Sumud flotilla recently.

Surya McEwen, his damaged arm after it was allegedly dislocated in an detention facility, informed that limited details were clear about the peace agreement. International aid organisations, including humanitarian bodies, were organizing to reach the region.

"Given the ongoing conditions where there's a severe and prohibited barrier on the territory," said the participant, boat protesters would continue to try to deliver aid by sea.

A different activist, who came back to the city on Friday, gave an emotional speech describing his detention with 83 other men in an incarceration center.

Political Statements

The NSW Greens MP the legislator addressed participants: "We must not allow a reality where the former president decides the future of the Palestinian people to be the type of reality we accept."

A different coordinator who filed the initial request to demonstrate at the famous location maintained that the protesters could have safely headed to the renowned coastal site. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously stated the legal authority that the plan had "disaster written all over it".

The organiser commented during the protest: "Whenever the authorities try to restrict our rallies or take us to the supreme court, it wakes up a lot of people... to the need to mobilise and resist these measures."
