Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Team to Face Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-game ODI series versus India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected inclusion.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad following managing only a single run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia seek a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after having time off since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
